DETROIT MEDICAL CENTER LIBRARIES

The largest health care provider in southeast Michigan, the Detroit Medical Center operates six hospitals (Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center, Harper University Hospital, Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Sinai-Grace Hospital, and The Michigan Orthopedic Specialty Hospital), two nursing centers and more than 100 outpatient facilities throughout southeast Michigan and is affiliated with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

The Detroit Medical Center Libraries and Information Services Network has a long history of collaborative collection development in each respective library that:

Library services available include access to professional book and journal literature in the fields of medicine, nursing, administration and allied health. Mediated database searching, interlibrary lending and borrowing through a 3,000-member National Library of Medicine network, end-user training, and library service to outpatient centers are available. DMC personnel may access personal computers connected to the Internet, computer-aided instruction and other electronic resources. Library services for patients and caregivers are available at most sites.

Library Services at CHM consist of the Medical Library and the Phyllis Ann Colburn Memorial Library. The Medical Library’s collection focuses on pediatric resources. The Phyllis Ann Colburn Memorial Library functions as both a recreational outlet for children and a family resource library with lay medical books, pamphlets, and videos on children’s diseases, drugs and disorders.

Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Learning Resources Center

The Learning Resources Center at RIM prides itself on being one of the premier centers for physical medicine and rehabilitation information. The LRC provides information services to patients, families, and the disabled community at large. It encompasses three components: the Medical Library, Patient Education Library and Media Center.

Sinai Grace Hospital, Medical Library

The Medical Library’s collection focuses on trauma, internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, surgery, neonatology, psychiatry, anesthesia, dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, nursing and the history of medicine in the Jewish community.

Michigan Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital Medical Library provides information about orthopaedics and physical therapy. A search of the library's reference books, journals and on-line databases can be performed for finding needed information.
